You are an individual, your own unique set of experiences, your own set of genetics, your own injury/illness history. At Native bodyworks we start with what we know for sure and then we can build. We look at you, no comparisons, clean slates. Then we can build. Every session is different and tailored specifically for you.

What To Expect

When you arrive at your first appointment we will need to know about you. Your own unique set of experiences, injuries, health conditions and concerns. We also need to know how you are using your body. So, the first thing we do is to take a full consultation. The reason for the italics is we need to know as much as we can about your history. Even a broken arm or ankle sprain when you were six could have set off a movement pattern that is not serving you very well today.

After the consultation, we will then look at your posture and observe how you manage your body during movement. This is done by watching you walk and perform various movements such as head rotations and tip toe standing.

We will move on to some muscle testing. This consists of gentle pressure applied to areas whilst your asked to resist. This will tell us if a particular muscle/group of muscles are working as efficiently as they should and if not what other area has to work harder.

Based on what the outcomes are in the consultation and assessment, your treatment will consists of either manual therapy (hands on massage techniques) or movement education or highly likely, a mixture of both.

One of the most important factors in your recovery will be your own understanding of your body. This is why we will share all our findings with you and your commitment to your recovery will be ongoing in the form of movement exercises or soft tissue work or even some mindfulness.
